Coursework Options

  • Take one or two courses to meet your needs
  • Take three of the courses to be eligible to sit for the National League for Nursing’s Certified Nurse Educator Exam CNE®
  • Take four courses to complete the post-graduate certificate in nursing education, and be eligible to sit for the National League for Nursing’s Certified Nurse Educator Exam CNE® 

Gain competencies in innovative curriculum design and create evidence-based nursing programs. Develop advanced teaching techniques, hone effective evaluation skills, and build leadership capabilities to inspire and lead in academic nursing settings.

Program Outcomes

  • Create evidence and values-based curricula, using the philosophy and science of nursing education.
  • Implement teaching/learning practices, inclusive of contemporary pedagogies and the scholarship of teaching and learning.
  • Construct assessment, evaluation, and testing measures for courses and program evaluation.
  • Demonstrate academic leadership in the design and delivery of nursing education.

*Sample plan for example only. Individual plans are worked out with the assigned Academic Advisor. Some students may finish programs in shorter periods than illustrated in the samples.

Sessions are 7-8 weeks in length, with the exception of NURS 838D: Becoming a Nurse Educator: Skills and Strategies Fellowship (3cr, 135 hours of applied-field work), which runs the full semester.

  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. (Unofficial copies can be used for application review.)
    • Official transcripts and English proficiency scores must be submitted for full admittance to the University.  Your official copies should be sent from the institution to [email protected]

  • One letter of recommendation from a professional reference
  • Professional Goal Statement
  • If you are interested in the three of the courses or the post-graduate certificate in nursing education to be eligible to sit for the National League for Nursing’s Certified Nurse Educator Exam CNE®, you may qualify for a scholarship. 

    To apply for a scholarship, please complete no more than one double-spaced page summary responding to the following:

    a.) commitment to being a future faculty member 

    b.) desired impact as a future nurse educator on preparing students to address health equity 

    c.) ability to become a values-based nurse educator
