The Department of Global Studies, in collaboration with the Conway School of Nursing, offers a unique certificate program designed to equip students with the linguistic and cultural skills necessary for effective communication in healthcare settings.
The program emphasizes proficiency in Spanish and awareness of the cultural and linguistic factors that shape patient care across diverse communities. Taken concurrently with nursing courses, the certificate program includes five courses totaling 15 credits.
Students participate in academic coursework and study abroad opportunities to apply language skills and cultural understanding in real-world healthcare environments.
Learn more about the Spanish for Healthcare Certificate Program on the official program webpage and view detailed course information in the program brochure (PDF).
This certificate has given me valuable tools to better serve the Hispanic community in the U.S. and provide cultural competent care as a nurse.
