  • Dr. Salomé Loera joined Conway School of Nursing full-time faculty as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Conway Mentor in 2024 with over 10 years of nursing experience and specialty certification in critical care, progressive care, cardiac medicine, and neuroscience. Dr. Loera has advanced practice nursing certification and experience as an adult acute care and gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist, with a specialization in critical care. She previously served as neuroscience Clinical Nurse Specialist for Inova Health System and maintains clinical practice as Clinical Nurse Specialist – Critical Care for Inova Fairfax Medical Campus.

    Dr. Loera has prior academic experience as an award-winning clinical instructor, most recently for the University of Washington, School of Nursing. She has also provided didactic instruction for registered and licensed practical nursing program students.

    Dr. Loera is published in multiple peer-reviewed journals and presented at local, regional, and national conferences. She received the Virginia Nurses Foundation’s 40 Under 40 Award in recognition of her achievements in professional practice, leadership, and positive advancement of the nursing profession. Dr. Loera has a BSN degree from Northern Michigan University School of Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice with advanced practice nursing specialization as a Clinical Nurse Specialist from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.

    Dr. Loera is dedicated to advancing the nursing profession by cultivating exceptional graduate nurses who exemplify the Conway School of Nursing mission to prepare professionally educated nurses who are capable of the moral, intellectual, and professional leadership and knowledge needed to provide quality clinical nursing care and service. She strives to provide learning opportunities that are grounded in clinical relevance and understanding, with an underlying focus on providing holistic care through cultivation of the nurse-patient relationship and recognition of the inherent dignity of the human person. Fostering students’ professional growth is a passion of Dr. Loera, as she actively supports future nurses in their pursuit of externships, post-graduate career opportunities, and volunteer work
