Dr. Paterson’s academic training and experience is in health services and policy analysis with an emphasis on health finance. She holds the Ph.D. in policy analysis from the University of California, Berkeley, an MS in nursing administration from Georgetown University, and a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from The Catholic University of America. Dr. Paterson has 25 years of experience in health policy at the academic, state, federal and international level. She has also taught health care finance to healthcare professionals in medical schools, nursing schools, and in professional workshops held in the United States, Russia, the Czech Republic, the Middle East, and Vietnam. She the author of over 30 publications and a textbook in healthcare finance for nursing advanced practitioners and interdisciplinary teams. Her areas of research include population health, family and community participation in healthcare and health policy, and quantitative methods in population health. Dr. Paterson has also served on health system and policy design teams to support health system payment reform in Egypt, Albania, and Iraq for USAID contracts during her service as an international practice manager for ABT Associates, a private policy consulting firm.
