Article I

The name of this organization shall be the Olivian Society of the School of Nursing of The Catholic University of America.

Article II

The purpose of this organization shall be to (1) maintain communication among students, faculty, and administration of the School of Nursing, and (2) to promote professional, personal, social, and spiritual growth of members.

Article III

Section 1. Membership shall consist of graduate students, faculty, and the Dean of the School of Nursing.

Section 2. Members will not be expected to pay dues.

Article IV

Section 1. The officers of this organization shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Section 2. Qualifications for each officer are as follows:

  1. President: Enrolled graduate student in the School of Nursing at the Catholic University of America
  2. Vice-President: Enrolled graduate student in the School of Nursing at the Catholic University of America
  3. Secretary: Enrolled graduate student in the School of Nursing at the Catholic University of America
  4. Treasurer: Enrolled graduate student in the School of Nursing at the Catholic University of America

Section 3. The duties of the President shall include:

  1. Responsible for the operation of the Olivian Society
  2. Oversight of Organizational Officers: Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Program Coordinator
  3. Outlines the work of the organization and assures that members are informed on all matters pertaining to the organization
  4. Establishes committees by elections, nominations or volunteer for special needs of the organization as identified by the members.
  5. Monitors progress of committee work and meet as needed with committee chairpersons
  6. Assures arrangements for meetings are made and members are notified
  7. Oversight of organizations finances and delegates committee budget to appropriate committee chairperson
  8. Responsible for annual reports
  9. University and School of Nursing point of contact for the Olivian Society

Section 4. The duties of the Vice President shall include:

  1. To coordinate committee members in a working group by planning and distributing assignments
  2. Monitor progress of work and report to President in a timely manner
  3. Report on committee progress to President and/or Olivian Society members
  4. Arranges committee meetings and makes sure each committee member is notified
  5. Communicates with Treasurer for committee budget needs

Section 5. The duties of the Secretary shall include:

  1. Maintain or develop register of current members
  2. Notify members of regular or called meetings
  3. Maintain the constitution, by laws, rules of order and standing rules
  4. Conduct the correspondence of the organization
  5. Distributes the agenda identified by the President each meeting
  6. Execute and distribute to all members copies of the minutes of each meeting
  7. Maintain the historical files of the organization
  8. Writes letters for the President and/or Treasurer to obtain financial support from the Graduate Student Association (GSA)

Section 6. The duties of the Treasurer include:

  1. Attends Graduate Student Association (GSA) meetings to represent the Olivian Society
  2. Presents to the GSA monetary requests for program needs of the Olivian Society
  3. Financial point of contact for the Olivian Society
  4. Works together with Committee Chairperson to decide on budgetary needs for programs and activities
  5. Reports financial status of Olivian Society at members' meetings
  6. Recommends to President and Olivian Society members budget for the next year
  7. Provides information to the members of the Olivian Society of the current programs offered by the GSA

Article V

Section 1. The organization shall have a Student Representative to the Master's Curriculum Committee

  1. Responsible for attending monthly Master's Curriculum Committee meetings
  2. Responsible for communicating appropriate information discussed at the meeting

Section 2. The organization shall have a Student Representative to the Doctoral Curriculum Committee

  1. Responsible for attending monthly Doctoral Curriculum Committee meetings
  2. Responsible for communicating appropriate information discussed at the meeting

Section 3. The organization shall have a representative to the Learning Technology and Resource Committee.

  1. Responsible for attending monthly Learning Technology and Resource Committee meetings
  2. Responsible for communicating appropriate information discussed at the meeting

Section 4. The organization shall have a Program Committee.

The committee chairperson shall have the following duties:

  1. Responsible for planning and implementing a program of professional and social activities for the year
  2. Responsible for obtaining room, equipment, food, and supplies needed for activities
  3. Responsible for notifying and posting the location, time, and other details of planned events

Section 5. The organization shall have an Undergraduate Liaison Committee.

The committee chairperson shall have the following duties:

  1. Provides communication between Graduate and Undergraduate Students of CUA per activities within the Olivian Society
  2. Responsive to the President's Recommendations
  3. Reports to members of the Olivian Society at members' meetings

Section 6. The organization shall have an Orientation Committee.

The committee chairperson shall have the following duties:

  1. Be a contact person for the faculty orientation committee
  2. Coordinate a group of students to welcome the new students during graduate orientation

Article VI

Section 1. The nominations and elections for President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary shall be held during the month of April, or as needed.

Section 2. The nominations and elections for the representative to the Master's Curriculum, Doctoral Curriculum, and Learning Technology and Resource Committees will be held in September.

Section 3. Nominations shall be held in a timely fashion.

  1. Nomination ballots will be distributed to all members via e-mail
  2. Once nominations have been announced and accepted, ballots will be distributed to all members via e-mail

Section 4. The candidate who receives 50% plus one vote shall win the office.

  1. If no candidate received 50% plus one vote, a run off will be held between the top vote getters.

Section 5. Any member who is not running for an elective office shall be eligible to count votes.

Article VII

Section 1. The advisor of this organization shall be a full-time member of the faculty or staff of the Catholic University of America.

Section 2. The Dean of the School of Nursing at the Catholic University of America shall appoint the Advisor.

Section 3. The status of the Advisor shall be subject to change by the following process:

  1. An executive board member will announce a vote for removal with substantive written explanation as to the cause presented to the executive board for screening.
  2. Notice of the vote for removal will be sent via e-mail to all members of the Olivian Society
  3. Responses will be tallied. A ¾ majority vote is required for the removal of the Advisor.

Section 4. The primary responsibility of the advisor is as consultant to the Olivian Society President and Olivian Society members on matters concerning the Olivian Society.

Article VIII

Section 1. Members of the executive board shall be removed from office via the following procedure:

  1. Any member of the executive board will initiate a vote for removal with substantive written explanation as to the cause and screening by the other members of the executive board and the faculty advisor.
  2. Notice of the vote for removal will be sent via e-mail to all members of the Olivian Society.
  3. Responses will be failed. A ¾ majority vote is required for the removal of an Officer.

Article IX

Section 1. The constitution shall be reviewed annually in the month of April. If it is deemed necessary to revise the constitution it will be done so over the summer months by the executive board.

Section 2. For the inaugural year, a member can propose amendments in written form to the whole of the organization. The normal ratification process follows in this instance.
