Amelia Clemens, Catholic '25, is a Nursing major from Annapolis, MD. She shares why she chose to attend Catholic University and the Conway School of Nursing, and what advice she has for prospective students.

Why did you choose to attend Catholic University?

"The environment and community was so welcoming. While touring campus it because obvious that the school prioritized making well-rounded students involved in leadership, academics, athletics, arts, and exemplifying a Catholic faith. With a great campus in the heart of Washington, D.C., but still lots of green space, I knew there would be opportunity to do externships, shadow days, and become involved in the community."

Why do you want to be a nurse?

"Nurses are truly the front line who get to know the patient and advocate for them. Through personal experience, I witnessed the hands-on approach that nurses have at some local hospitals. I knew I wanted a career I would be proud of and give back to the people who helped me. For me, nursing was the role I felt called for because it gives me the opportunity to give back and grow as a person."

What's been your favorite part of being a student at Catholic University?

"My favorite parts of being a student are the opportunities it brings. If you want to try something new, there are so many opportunities. If you want to become a leader, join clubs and organizations and step into new roles. Want to study abroad? In nursing, Catholic allows you to travel for an entire nursing semester, not just a summer program but a three-month opportunity to experience Rome or Australia. I went to Rome, and it's safe to say it brought me some incredible memories. Overall, I am super grateful for the places my education at Catholic University brought me and the opportunities it has opened up."

What advice would you give to prospective students?

"Don't be afraid to try something new or put yourself out there. I was nervous for college and trying new things. I quickly found opportunities to become the leader of two student organizations, study abroad, and to meet amazing friends and classmates. Try to say yes to as many new chances you get as it truly will introduce you to some of your best friends and give you memories of a lifetime."
