Sarah Abood is a Nursing major from Plainfield, NJ. She shares why she chose to attend Catholic University and the Conway School of Nursing, and what advice she has for prospective students.

Why did you choose to attend Catholic University?

"I chose to attend Catholic University because I felt that it fostered an environment that would help me develop into the nurse I hope to be, challenge me intellectually, and offer a multitude of opportunities in which I could become involved. I am surrounded by individuals with strong values, work ethic, and drive that I hope to emulate.

My curriculum includes courses not only prepare me for nursing licensure, but also emphasize Catholic teaching, bioethics, philosophy, and critical thinking. I wanted to attend college in a city with much to offer, and be able to play a sport at a university that allows me to balance academics with athletics."

Why do you want to be a nurse?

"Both of my parents are educators, so I grew up wanting a similar career in the sense of fulfillment and bettering the lives of individuals every day. I was always interested in health and science, so nursing called to me as a role that would satisfy that. Growing up, seeing the impact nurses have had on my family members in diagnosis, healing, advocacy, and support solidified my interest in the career. Nursing is unique in that the opportunities for growth are endless; whether it is research, education, advanced practice, or law, I am excited for the paths I can explore."

What's been your favorite part of being a student at Catholic University?

"Catholic provides so many opportunities to be a part of many different communities as a student, and I have found this to be my favorite part of my college experience. I run on the cross country and track & field teams, and my teammates are people I hope to have in my life for years to come. I am a tutor for nursing students, and being a part of their nursing journey is something I have become extremely passionate about and have found very rewarding. The nursing community is extremely supportive, and my peers support each other to an extent I didn't think possible."

What advice would you give to prospective students?

"My advice is to get involved! You create your experience. College can be stressful, and balancing academics with clubs, sports, or campus programs could introduce you to people who will only make your four years easier and more memorable."
