Job Summary
The Clinical Course Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing the clinical components of undergraduate nursing courses in the Conway School of Nursing. This role ensures students receive high-quality, mission-driven clinical learning experiences by collaborating with healthcare agencies, supervising Clinical Faculty Instructors, and facilitating simulation-based learning activities. The position upholds the ethical standards of health care delivery in alignment with the Catholic Church’s teachings and supports the academic and professional development of nursing students.
Term
One semester; renewed based on the needs of the program and satisfactory performance evaluation.
Education/ Qualifications
- Must have a graduate degree in nursing
- Experience as a Clinical Instructor preferred
- Minimum two years experience as a RN in the acute care setting.
- Minimum two years experience in nursing education, can be through preceptorships or involvement in unit education committees
- Valid DC RN license, must be willing to obtain within 60 days of hire
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to walk/ stand for long periods of time
- Reports to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs.
- Follows the appropriate chain of command (see below) for escalating issues with Clinical Faculty Instructors or students:

Responsibilities
- Attends mandatory Clinical Faculty Orientations and Student Clinical Orientations at a designated location on campus at Catholic University.
- Supports the mission and vision of The Catholic University of America. Regardless of the Clinical Course Coordinator’s religious or denominational affiliation, conducts and supports the University’s mission in the fulfillment of their responsibilities and obligations as Clinical Course Coordinator.
- Consistently upholds, through both word and action, the ethical standards of healthcare delivery that flow from the Church’s teaching regarding the inherent dignity of the human person and the sanctity of life from conception to natural death, as articulated in, Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services, (USCCB, sixth edition).
- Investigates clinical facilities to ensure that students are able to meet BSN clinical requirements and program objectives through partnership with the site.
- Collaborates with area agencies to offer appropriate clinical opportunities to our undergraduate nursing students.
- Assigns and reviews clinical assignments with students and Instructors during clinical orientation and throughout the semester.
- Submits midterm and final grade to Cardinal success for each student.
- Works collaboratively with the Director of Undergraduate Clinical Partnerships and Placements, Program Manager for Undergraduate Clinical Partnerships and Placements, and Clinical Faculty Instructors
- Advises and reinforces Instructors in their respective role.
- Tracks student and instructor evaluation data in coordination with the Director and Program Manager of Undergraduate Clinical Partnerships and Placements.
- Collects graded student clinical assignments from all clinical faculty instructors for all clinical sections.
- Completes course reports at the end of each semester.
- Collaborates with the Simulation team as needed to facilitate simulation learning opportunities (see below).
- Completes at least one in-person site visit and Instructor evaluation at each site during the clinical rotation; provides additional site visits for clinical rotations that may require additional supervision.
- Works with Clinical Faculty Instructors to evaluate the agency and unit for continued use as a clinical site.
- Engages with the Clinical Faculty Instructors on a regular basis.
- Provides Academic Warnings to students when warranted by collaborating with Associate Dean and the Clinical Instructor.
- Identifies and schedules students returning from absences for makeups as needed.
- Works with CUA simulation team to support reflective learning and critical thinking of learners.
- Attends a debriefer training on site.
- Completes all assigned modules related to simulation onsite training for debriefers.
- Facilitates high-quality, learner-centered debriefing sessions lasting approximately 30 minutes.
- Conducts debriefing sessions using the structured debriefing methodology selected by the CUA simulation team.
- Conducts debriefing sessions in alignment with simulation learning objectives.
- Upholds key principles of simulation pedagogy such as fiction contract, confidentiality, psychological safety, fidelity, and honest self-reflection.
- Willing to act as provider as part of the simulation by providing students with appropriate prompts (CUA simulation team to provide guidance, scenario progressions, and suggested prompts).
- Serves as a subject matter expert for prebriefing workshops and debriefing.
- Ensures all learners complete the SET-M survey at the conclusion of the debriefing session.
- Wears proper clinical attire (scrubs) to simulation
- Ensures that Clinical Faculty Instructors are reviewing simulation video recordings and completing the clinical simulation checklists for their student cohorts.
