WASHINGTON, D.C., October 14, 2025 — El Pregonero, the Spanish-language newspaper of the Archdiocese of Washington, recently spotlighted The Catholic University of America’s Conway School of Nursing as one of the nation’s leading nursing schools.
The feature story showcased two Conway students, Angelea Flores and Lesly Méndez, who represent the more than 20% of Hispanic students pursuing nursing degrees at Catholic University. Both are driven by a calling to serve others through compassion, perseverance, and faith.
Angelea, who has Colombian and Salvadoran roots, was inspired to become a nurse after seeing the care her grandmother received during cancer treatment. Lesly, the daughter of Guatemalan immigrants, found her passion translating for her family during doctor’s appointments and now hopes to make healthcare more accessible for underserved communities.
Dean Marie Nolan reflected on the distinctive formation offered at Conway:
“Our students receive a foundation in philosophy and theology that sets us apart. It allows them to ask deeper questions about life, humanity, and the healing vocation of nursing.”
With 430 students enrolled, Conway ranks #1 locally, tied with George Washington University, and #28 nationally, according to U.S. News & World Report. The School’s advanced technology, simulation labs, and virtual hospital environments prepare students to excel in real-world clinical settings.
Thanks to the transformative generosity of Bill and Joanne Conway, the School’s cutting-edge facility offers a world-class learning experience. Conway graduates consistently achieve a 100% employment rate within six months, reflecting the School’s academic rigor and emphasis on compassionate care.
University President Peter Kilpatrick noted:
“The Conway School of Nursing exemplifies the union of faith, service, and excellence. Our graduates are not only skilled practitioners but also healers who understand the sacredness of human dignity.”
Both Flores and Méndez benefit from substantial scholarships that allow them to pursue their education without financial burden, further empowering them to fulfill their dreams and serve their communities.
